No. 33 Exchange (Los Angeles)
Capacity 1,500
Old meets new at Exchange (main pic), as classic influences meet an LED screen with over one million bulbs, a Funktion-One Res 3 sound system, six full-service bars and naturally, all the smart lighting and confetti one could dream of. Add to that additional spaces like the more chill Rockefeller Room or the private Sky Loft, and there is a space tailored for every mood and pocket. This is, essentially, The Wolf of Wall Street’s playing ground in real life.
No. 34 Arma 17 (Moscow)
Capacity 800
Based in Moscow, [Arma 17] is a truly underground space that its trends both locally and internationally. Not bound by genre, but with a focus on the more discerning end of the spectrum, the large, rugged brick building with high ceilings and church-like windows down each side makes for a religious experience. Cult acts and electronic experimenters like the Hessle Audio crew and DJs such as Rhadoo, Maayan Nidam, DJ Qu and Morphosis have all played there since reopening and Abdulla Rashim, Samuel Kerridge, Zip, Binh and more are already lined up for the coming months.
No. 35 Marquee Las Vegas
Capacity 5,000
Las Vegas has quite obviously shifted from the center of gambling to the centre of nightlife, and Marquee Las Vegas continues to be one of the names leading the charge for the city’s nightlife. Opened in 2011 within The Cosmopolitan hotel, Marquee is a multi-level space (and multi-setting with both indoor and outdoor/pool areas) equipped with state-of-the-art everything. [Bookings include] Benny Benassi to Firebeatz to Porter Robinson and Cash Cash, all playing alongside residents like DJ Vice and Papi Gordo himself, Carnage
No. 39 Barbarella’s Discoteque (Croatia)
Capacity 2,500
Barbarella’s Discotheque, situated in Tisno, Croatia, is the sister venue of The Garden Resort, home to a number of intimate dance music festivals including Electric Elephant, Love International and Soundwave. The 2500-capacity club is set in an idyllic spot. Last year, the owners installed a Funktion One soundsystem and a new chill area is planned for the 2016 season, complete with hammocks and beds, inspired by Amnesia’s ’80s layout.
No.48 Output (New York)
Capacity 450
Seth Troxler has said of the Brooklyn club, “Perfect sound, amazing line-ups and great Sunday parties. If you want underground music, there is nowhere better in America.” It’s a nondescript building from the outside, and hints of the rooftop patio seen from the street look more festive than the building’s blackened walls. Once inside, it’s dark and industrial, with much of the building’s inner structures exposed and a second floor overlooking the main room. It all feels raw and intimate.
No. 49 White Club (Dubai)
Capacity 2,000
Three years ago White Club was an empty hotel rooftop, and now it is one of the finest spaces to party in all the world… Featuring just one vast room of sleek, high-tech design and ultra-modern decor, it also has an outdoor rooftop terrace that is much loved in the city and allows dancing under the stars. New for the last 12 months were extra screens, lights and lasers as well as a brand new Funktion-One sound system.
No. 52 Privilege Ibiza
Capacity 10,000
A true sanctuary of electronic music, Privilege is one of the globe’s most historic nightspots… the club hit its stride in the ’80s, transforming into the hedonistic house music haven we know today. It has often been touted as the biggest club in the world — its main room is the size of an aircraft hanger with a 25m-high ceiling, plus several gardens and chill-out spaces, two VIP areas and 14 bars.
No. 56 D-Edge (Sao Paulo)
Capacity 1,000
With a decent label and regular nights such as Moving, Freak Chic and Mothership – the likes of which have welcomed Mar-T, Mind Against and Nicole Moudaber in recent months – D-Edge is not only the jewel of Sao Paulo’s crown, it’s a hi-tech stack of hedonism admired by switched on clubbers all over the world.
No. 57 Lost Beach Club (Ecuador)
Capacity 5,000
The story behind Lost Beach Club in Ecuador is nearly as convoluted as the tale of the cult TV series Lost, after which it is named. The club itself is amazing… it operates a ‘no EDM’ policy, so the roll-call of recent visiting DJs reads like a who’s who of the underground – such as Damian Lazarus, Soul Clap, DJ T and Steve Bug.
